Documentation

We have been thinking about this a bit and think it would be a great idea for everyone to track their progress in ways other than the point system associated with The Contest.

We'd like everyone to take a full body photo (in shorts and a t-shirt) and send it along to J.C. (jcwhip@gmail.com). We can do this again at the mid-way point and yet again at the finale.

Also, Molly and I have some ideas on how to document this entire process (to be revealed another time) and we'd like everyone to consider keeping a journal of their experience. It doesn't have to be a novel - just quick snippets of your excitement, fears, wins, losses - whatever you are feeling. Also, keep track of any meds you are on, your BP (if you know it), resting pulse, etc. We are confident that people are going to see some fantastic changes in these area.

If you want, keep a running journal in Microsoft Word (or other software). Keep things associated to dates or the number of the week in The Contest. At the end we'll ask you to pass it along and we can sift through things a little easier.

We'd love to have everyone keep a journal, but we know time may be an issue. Ultimately what we're looking for is a cross representation of our group - age, new mothers, current athletes, athletes that never were, etc.

That sounds great. I developed a spreadsheet to keep track of meals, points, etc. I will also keep a journal too (with the photo I send to Jay C!) I do have a couple questions that I would like some feedback on.

Since carrying Ellie, I have been ADDICTED to milk. Never really drank much of it before, but now I can't get enough. While carrying her, by preference was whole milk, but now I have switched to 1%. I can't stand skim milk. How can I incorporate milk into my new diet, in a healthy way?

Second question, I love tea. I drink it black without milk or sugar. Does it matter if it is black tea or should I change to green tea (which I like too)?

Erin and I drink a TON of milk. We go through at least two gallons a week.

Milk is obviously a great source of protein (which you need to help build lean muscle), and as we said in the Eating / Diet post, we usually have a glass of chocolate milk after we work out.

I am not up on my teas, but I did a quick search and the link below is one of many that I found.

Looks like black tea has its own version of benefits vs. green tea.

If I had to eliminate milk, I'd be out of this! We are 1% people, too.

After I had Anna I craved milk, too! Your body has a great way of letting you know what it needs, as long as you're able to listen to it. When we consume unnatural, processed, preserved, fried (etc.) products, it prevents us from hearing our body tell us what's lacking.

As for tea, I love it and am a huge fan. Be very conscious, though, of how much caffeine you're consuming. My advice is to stick to herbal teas as much as possible...they taste better, too!

The Rochester Runyons will agree that one of the best teas you'll ever have is "Breathe Deep" by Yogi Tea. I bet you could find it at the whole foods store in Hamilton, and I know you can get it at Wegman's. I used to get it at Tops when they were still in Norwich, believe it or not! Anyway, I stumbled upon it when I lived in NY and it was a Godsend when I was having anxiety issues. It's got a great taste and is very drinkable, as well as relaxes you!
